Event: 2nd Annual Sarah’s Ride & Fire Fighter Appreciation Day

The Portsmouth Firefighters Charitable Association is holding the annual Sarah’s Ride in honor of Portsmouth Fire Fighter Sarah Fox. Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 9, 2007. At the time she was also 36 ½ weeks pregnant with twins. Twelve hours after her diagnosis the twins were born making a family of seven. While it wasn’t easy, Sarah fought through the many challenges and treatments that cancer brings and beat the odds returning to work in January 2009. Just over a year later Sarah developed a pain in her hip which was discovered to be cancer. Sarah, her husband Matt, and their 5 children and extended family are faced with the fight against cancer once again. Sarah continues to fight this illness today.
Sarah’s fight has touched us all. The 1st annual ride was organized by firefighters and their families to help Sarah and her family, the nearly 400 motorcycles in the ride and the 2500 people attending the event raised over $20,000 for Sarah and her family. The 2nd annual Sarah’s ride funds will be held in the charitable association’s accounts and be used to continue the mission of helping firefighters and families suffering a devastating illness and to support the Portsmouth firefighters charitable giving to the community.
